Aliens, pudding monsters, wood chippers - the usual.

Alien Hominid is back!
Ever since the beginning of the month (just last week, haha), I’ve sort of been a little game crazy. And why the hell not?! This month comes Halo 2, MGS3, Metroid Prime 2: Echos, Half-Life 2, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, Capcom Fighting Evolution and even a brand new system, the Nintendo DS (and I’m sure I’m leaving out so many other games). Like I said before, the year’s end is just crazy with video games definitely being on top of holiday shopping lists. Now I always look for the games that are crazy, cool, quirky and that are a little “different.” Following my obsession with ICO, Rez, Virtual On (don’t know if they’re that crazy, but definitely not the industry’s big-budget hits), I learned a while ago that Alien Hominid was being made into a full-fledged console video game. Now this comes as a great surprise for me, because I (and I’m sure some of you) remember when this started out as a hit Flash game back in 2002. That game was hella cool, as well as the developers’ - The Behemoth - other creations. Newgrounds really helped spread the game to everyone’s attention and now the new game publisher O-3 Entertainment is releasing an all-new title on Gamecube and PS2.

It’s pretty darn cool when something like this happens. It’s happening a lot more often in other industries, where like Flash artists and their original work/creations are being tapped by big companies for advertising - due to their popularity. Another example, which comes to mind and could relate directly to Alien Hominid, is the free Puzzle Bubble-clone Snood. A crazy PC hit then made into a full Game Boy Advance video game.

Okay, so besides the fond memories of the Flash game, I have to say I’m definitely interested in the title because of two things: 1. Shooter-games are one of my favorites (Contra, Metal Slug, you name it). It’s a game that you can pick-up and play for a few minutes to get a quick fix, or you can get hooked on it and beat it in a few hours. 2. The animation. If you can’t tell, I love cartoons. And the style and care that’s brought to a game like this is something I totally admire. The game comes out next week, November 16th (along with so many other great games, but I recommend being prudent and practical on what you get - Halo 2 and MGS3 would be more than enough for me, hehe), so if you’re interested check it out. The price tag ($29.99.. though IGN keep saying $20, weird) which is at least a good breather from other big, $50 titles. God forbid you should find and play pirated games. Derf! Cheers :)
