Your friendly, neighborhood search engine
Clusty.com. Let’s start by saying that the name kinda sucks. No wait - it just sucks. Haha! I admit, I’m pretty impressed by this new search engine and how it clusters info (hence, its oddly-sounding name) either by topics, URLs or sources. All of it is powered by the “Vivisimo clustering algorithm,” which seems to me to work simply by smartly organizing keywords that are in websites. It’s pretty cool, or scary depending on how much you want your privacy, when you search for something like your name and some of the “topic clusters” will be links to your friends’ blogs, websites you contribute to, whatever. When I did a search for my name, one of my topics was “Whoa,” and that’s always fun to see.
While some things definitely need work on - like the image search - the orgazination of links and stuff is pretty well done for being in beta. For me though, I succumb to A9.com.
Last few months, my favorite search engine has been A9.com (which is powered by a lot of things like Google and IMDb). I really put it to use since I really like A9’s diary feature; using the A9 Toolbar to make notes when surfing the net and then accessing them later on any computer. I also like how it organizes the information type (whether you just want links, images, movie info, etc.) and being able to see all of it at once. It just works so intuitively for me.
So now with Clusty.com, I find myself using a few different search engines. I suppose it just all depend on the task. If just doing quick search, just Google it (especially since most browers utilize a Google search in the toolbar anyways). Doing something more for in-depth research, taking notes, or shopping A9.com seems like a good way to go. Then finally, to see how much a search topic makes its rounds around the web and what kind of influence it has, or just looking for a bit more info on it, use Wikipedia.com (always a good time-killer) or Clusty.com. Clusty… seriously it just doesn’t sound as fun as Google. “Google it.” “Clusty it” - yeah that doesn’t work. ![]()
