Archive for August, 2005

So every few months I have an update about Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2. Here’s the latest! IGN.com has a new hi-res video of a full battle with one of the Colossus creatures. The game really looks amazing, and seems to be running a lot better than in previous demos. IGN uploaded another lo-res boss battle video earlier this month, which I believe you can access even if you’re not an IGN Insider member. While I’m pretty obsessed with Nintendogs - and hope to tryout Advance Wars DS at some point - Shadow of the Colossus is still my most anticipated game of the year. Especially with Zelda moving to 2006, boo-yah!
Shadow of the Colossus will be released on October 27 in the states. I’m sure to pick this one up, as I don’t know if I can spend $400+ dollars for an XBox 360. ![]()

Awesome grab from Boingboing.net. Really funny promo for the Hollywood Reporter’s Key Art Awards, showcasing the actors who do voiceovers for countless blockbuster film previews. Finally we can put a face to those great melodramatic voices!

This week’s issue of The New Yorker (August 22nd) is entirely sponsored by the Target corporation. Target collaborated with 24 established illustrators — from Milton Glaser to James Jean — to create the ads, all having a NYC theme and limited to 3 colors (black, white and red). Pretty neat project if I do say so myself.
Picked up a copy of it today, and I really enjoy it. The ads by Bill Brown and James Jean (probably my favorite illustrator these days — his comic book covers are amazing) are my favorites. ![]()

Cute Flash animation. It would make any graphic designer proud.
“An interactive experience of color communication and color symbolism.”
An extremely well-made flash movie showing the symbolism of colors.

Sega’s Virtual-On series have always been my favorite video games. Starting out as some innovative arcade games, the series later became worthy ports on the Saturn, PC and Dreamcast (Virtual-On Marz for PS2, however, was pretty crappy.. can’t win them all, doh). Anyhoo, in celebration of the series’ 10th Anniversary, Sega will hold its first Virtual-On tournament in three years. Players can compete in pairs in the team game Virtual-On Force or go solo in probably the best of the series Virtual-On: Oratorio Tangram.
Unfortunately, this is only being held in Japan - since the fanbase is stronger there. If you’d like to help sponsor me on a trip to the tournament, let me know. I would totally start a “Virtual-On Fund.” ![]()
