DK Publishing, initially in collaboration with Claire’s Accessories, started a new series of books focusing on preteen girls’ fashion and style. The first two books, Fabulous Hair and Super Style, required over 200 full-color illustrations, including backgrounds, how-to steps, and caricatures. I did all the pencils and breakdowns, created the color palettes, and oversaw final production with a freelance team of inkers and colorists.

(a) These are two “style guides” I created to help explain the coloring process and keeping consistency in the details. I gave these guides to my team for reference.
(b) “How-to” samples used in the books.
(c) Character designs used in both books. These began as caricatures of girls from the books’ photo shoot and then simplified to become characters who would give fashion tips and act as the reader’s guides.
